My research aims to answer the question: "how can AI - and technology in general - augment the way humans work, create, innovate, and learn, individually and in teams?"

To answer this, I develop computational methods and tools that facilitate collaboration, creativity, and learning, both online and in person, with applications in crowdwork, education, and business.

Below are five key areas of my work. For more information, feel free to also visit the Collaborative Technologies Lab that I lead at Utrecht University.

Team formation algorithms

How can algorithms help decision-makers build teams that perform efficiently, are sustainable and ensure their members' well-being?

Human agency over AI decisions

How to design AI that gives users control while ensuring performance?

Novel forms of collaboration

What new forms of collaboration can emerge from emerging forms of work like crowdsourcing?

Collaborative innovation

How can technology help teams think better outside the box?

Human-AI teams

What is the potential of mixed human-AI teams? What role can AI play in augmenting human collaborative capabilities?
